Charles John Richardson was born on 21 October 1829 at Ticknall, Derbyshire.2,1 He was the son of Richard Richardson and Maria Bryer. Charles John Richardson was baptised at General Baptist Chapel at Ticknall, Derbyshire.3
He was recorded as living with his parents, three servants and his siblings Richard, John, Elizabeth, Thomas and Ann in the 1841 census at Church Street, Chellaston, Derbyshire. He was recorded as being 11 years old.4
Charles John Richardson married Emma Leonard, daughter of James Leonard and Mary Wayte, circa June 1853 at Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester.5
He was recorded as head of household in the 1861 census with Emma Leonard as his spouse at 11 Monton Street, Moss Side, Manchester. He was 31 years old. He was recorded as being 31 years old. Also in the house was their daughter, Charles' brother and two servants.6 Charles John Richardson was a cashier in a merchant's office in April 1871.7
He was recorded as head of household in the 1871 census with Emma Leonard as his spouse at private house in Guywood Lane, Romiley, Cheshire. He was 41 years old. His age was recorded as 41 years old. Also living in the house were his three daughters, his mother-in-law, a governess and two servants.8 Werneth House was reportedly built in 1863, and is still standing. It is a two storey stone freestanding house in Guywood Lane, and was perhaps the house that the Leonards were living in 1871 through 1881. The rooms are large and the ceilings are high; it is evidently an imposing place. Charles John Richardson was a clerk cashier in a merchant's office in April 1881.1

His age was recorded as being 51 years old. Also in the house were his three daughters, his wife's mother and two servants.1 Charles John Richardson was a cashier for a merchant in April 1891.9
He was recorded as head of household in the 1891 census at Guyworth Lane, Romiley, Cheshire. He was 61 years old. His age was recorded as 61 years old, and it was recorded that he was living with his three daughters and two servants.9 Charles lived in May 1893 at Rhiaunedd, Pensarn, Denbighshire, Wales.10
Charles died on 8 May 1893 at age 63.10
His will was probated on 21 June 1893. The value of his estate, divided equally between his unmarried daughters, was 9,472 pounds.10
