Emma was born circa 1819 at Rugeley, Staffordshire.2,1 She was the daughter of James Leonard and Mary Wayte.1 Emma Leonard was baptised on Tuesday, 6 July 1819 at Rugeley, Staffordshire.2 She presumably lived with her parents at Rugeley, Staffordshire, in March 1827. The house, which the Leonard's needed to vacate, was described as a "commodious dwelling-house, situated near the Market PLace, with a good shop to the front" and came with a good pew in the church.3 She presumably lived with her parents at Rugeley, Staffordshire, in October 1827.4

She was recorded as living with her parents, 3 young children, and her siblings Mary, Martha and Ruth in the 1841 census at 1 Boundary Street, Hulme, Manchester. She was recorded as being approximately 20 years old (rounded down to the nearest 5 years).5

Emma Leonard was recorded as a visitor to the household of George F. Bunton and Ann (?) in the 1851 census at Mr. Bunton's Lodge, Duston, Northampton. She was recorded as being 27 years old.6 Emma Leonard was a governess, visiting in the house of George F. Bunton in April 1851 at Duston, Northamptonshire.7

Emma Leonard married Charles John Richardson, son of Richard Richardson and Maria Bryer, circa June 1853 at Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester.8

Emma Leonard was recorded as the spouse of Charles John Richardson in the 1861 census at 11 Monton Street, Moss Side, Manchester. She was recorded as being 38 years old. Also in the house was their daughter, Charles' brother and two servants.9

Emma Leonard was recorded as the spouse of Charles John Richardson in the 1871 census at private house in Guywood Lane, Romiley, Cheshire. She was recorded as being 41 years old..10 Werneth House was reportedly built in 1863, and is still standing. It is a two storey stone freestanding house in Guywood Lane, and was perhaps the house that the Leonards were living in 1871 through 1881. The rooms are large and the ceilings are high; it is evidently an imposing place.

Emma Leonard was recorded as the spouse of Charles John Richardson in the 1881 census at Werneth House, Romiley, Cheshire. She was recorded as being 64 years old. Also in the house were her three daughters, her mother and two servants.11

Emma likely died in August 1888 at Stockport, Cheshire.12,13 Her body was interred at Southern Cemetery on 16 August 1888 at Manchester.13
