Elizabeth was born circa 1789 at Melcombe Regis, Weymouth, Dorset.3 She was the daughter of William Fooks and Ann Williams MacKenzie. Elizabeth Emma Fooks was baptised on Sunday, 31 January 1790 at Melcombe Regis, Weymouth, Dorset.3

Elizabeth Emma Fooks married Thomas Lipson on Thursday, 30 July 1812 at Melcombe Regis, Weymouth, Dorset.4,5

Her mother died 23 October 1832 at the approximate age of 73.

Elizabeth and her husband Thomas emigrated with their six children from England on 20 March 1836 on the Cygnet. The Cygnet stoped in Rio de Janeiro for cuddy stores.4,6 Elizabeth and her husband Thomas arrived at South Australia on 11 September 1836. The family spent 4 months on Kangaroo Island before moving to Port Adelaide on 6th January 1837.4,6
Upon arrival in the new colony Captain Thomas Lipson was appointed by Govenor Hindmarsh as South Australia’s first naval officer, its first collector of customs, and harbour master of Port Adelaide. He exercised virtually single-handed control over shipping and harbour improvements. He was known as an extremely conscientious official.4,7

Her father died 19 September 1844.

His will was probated 4 March 1864, with his estate being awarded to Elizabeth Emma Fooks through Frederick Pike of Charing Cross, Navy Agent, her lawful attorney. His effects were valued as less than £600.8

Elizabeth died on 30 May 1880 at Adelaide.4,9 Her body was interred at West Terrace Cemetery at Adelaide.8
