Harriet Oaten was born on 3 January 1840 at Boulogne, France.1 She was the daughter of William Oaten and Harriet Bolt.1 Harriet Oaten was baptised at British Chapel on Sunday, 26 January 1840 at Boulogne-sur-Mer, Pas-de-Calais, France.1

Harriet Oaten married Edwin Chappell at Walcot Church on Sunday, 19 February 1860 at Walcot, Bath. They were 20 and 20 respectively.1,2

Harriet Oaten was recorded as the spouse of Edwin Chappell in the 1871 census at 2 Brook Place, Bath.3

Harriet Oaten was recorded as the spouse of Edwin Chappell in the 1881 census at Bath.4 Harriet Oaten 'I always think, looking at the 1910 photo, that Harriet Chappell (nee Oaten) has a kindly face although I think life was not easy for her. My grandfather Edwin Chappell Jnr was a slender build as was my father and his siblings. The family always seemed to have great vegetable gardens, loved fishing, ate well as a result and drank little alcohol'.1,5
