Mads was born at Bårdset Nedre farm on Sunday, 13 March 1791 at Ringsaker Parish, Hedmark, Norway.2 He was the son of Christopher Larsen Krogen and Anne Madsdatter Krogen.1 Mads Christophersen Krogen was baptised on Sunday, 17 April 1791 at Ringsaker Parish, Hedmark, Norway.2 He presumably lived with his parents at Ringsaker Parish, Hedmark, in March 1792.3 He presumably lived with his parents at Ringsaker Parish, Hedmark, in December 1795.4
He was recorded as living with his parents and two siblings Agnete in the 1801 census at Ringsaker Parish, Hedmark. He was recorded as being 10 years old.1
He attended the wedding of his brother Lars when he married Mari Gulbrandsdatter on Wednesday, 12 April 1820 at Ringsaker Parish, Hedmark.5
