Dorthe Hansdatter Hjermstad was born circa 1791 at at Sylju farm near the village of Stange Stange Parish, Hedmark, Norway.2,1 She was the daughter of Hans Simensen Saxlund and Marie Nielsdatter Saxlund.1 Dorthe Hansdatter Hjermstad was baptised on Sunday, 27 February 1791 at Ottestad, Stange Parish, Hedmark, Norway.3 Dorthe Hansdatter Hjermstad was also known as Dorthe Hansdatter Sylje (in the Norwegian tradition) when she was at this farm. She presumably lived with her parents at at Saxlund (or Sakslund) farm near the village of Stange Stange Parish, Hedmark, Norway, in March 1796.4
She was recorded as living with her parents and five siblings Simen, Anne, Oliv, Niels and Hans in the 1801 census at Stange, Stange Parish, Hedmark. She was recorded as being 10 years old.5
Dorthe Hansdatter Hjermstad married Halvor Halvorsen on Tuesday, 14 November 1815 at Ottestad, Stange Parish, Hedmark.6
She was recorded as head of household in the 1865 census. Also living in the house were 3 of her adult children.7
