Margaret Nicholson may have been born in 1832 at Ise of Skye, Inverness-shire, Scotland.2 She may have been born circa 1836 at Scotland.3 She was the daughter of James Nicholson and Margaret McDonald.1 Margaret Nicholson may have been born circa 1837.1 As of 1840, Margaret Nicholson was also known as Mary Nicolson.4,3

She was recorded as living with her parents, a visitor (perhaps her grandfather) and siblings Samuel, William, Flora, Charles, Mary and Isabella in the 1841 census at Duntulm, Kilmuir, Inverness-shire, Scotland. She was recorded as being 7 years old.4

Her mother died before March 1851. She presumably lived with her parents at Inverness-shire, Scotland, in 1854.3 She was a domestic servant in 1854.3

Margaret emigrated from Liverpool on 29 July 1854 on the 'Hornet.3,5' Margaret arrived at Geelong, Victoria, on 23 October 1854.3
