Albert Manthorpe was born circa June 1861 at Herringfleet, Suffolk.1 He was the son of George Marston Manthorpe and Caroline Oldman.1
He was recorded as living with his parents, Emanuel Olman (who may have been his stepbrother), two siblings and twin boys of Emanuel Oldman in the 1871 census at Manthorpe's Lake, Herringfleet, Suffolk.1 His occupation was recorded as being a 'farm boy' in the census.1
