Lydia was born on Friday, 25 October 1889 at the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood.1,2 She was the daughter of Henry Hensell Thompson and Margaret Anne Carroll.1 Lydia Thompson was also known as Lil.1 Lydia Thompson was also known as Lily.1
Her father died 29 December 1898 at the age of 38. Lydia was aged 9 when this happened. She presumably lived with her parents at at corner Reilly and Blanch streets in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood in October 1901.3
Her mother died 7 November 1905 at the age of 41. Lydia was aged 16 when this happened. She had two younger sisters she needed to care for. She was as a shop assistant for Foy and Gibsons.1 She and Herbert Clarence Keys moved to Sydney.1
Lydia Thompson married Herbert Clarence Keys at St. John's on Saturday, 24 April 1915 at the Melbourne suburb of Clifton Hill.1,4
