John Lancaster was born circa 1883 at Liverpool.1 He was the son of Ann Lancaster.1

He was recorded as living with his mother, his step-father, his brother and his two step-siblings William, Thomas and Elizabeth in the 1891 census at 13 Stonehill Street, Liverpool. He was recorded as being 8 years old.1 His occupation was recorded as being a scholar in the census.1 As of March 1901, John Lancaster was also known as John Nicholson (but seems to have reverted back to his original name by the time of the 1911 census.)2

He was recorded as living with his mother, his step-father, his brother and step-siblings William, Thomas, Elizabeth, Donald and Hannah in the 1901 census at 9 Dawber street, Everton, Liverpool. He was recorded as being 18 years old.2 His occupation was recorded as being a van driver for a stationery firm in the census. Perhaps this was the same firm his step-father worked for.2

He was recorded as living with his mother, a boarder, his brother and step-siblings Thomas, Elizabeth, Donald and Hannah in the 1911 census at 32 Breckfield Road, South Liverpool. He was recorded as being 28 years old.3 His occupation was recorded as being a window cleaner in the census.3
