Alice Maud Mary Smith was born in 1873 at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.2 She was the daughter of James William Smith and Maria Cutting Boyce.2

She was recorded as living with her parents and siblings James, Elizabeth and Beatrice in the 1881 census at 20 Tottenham Street, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. She was recorded as being 8 years old. Also in the house were four of their children.4 Alice Maud Mary Smith was a scholar on 3 April 1881.4

She was recorded as living with her parents and siblings, Elizabeth and Beatrice in the 1891 census at 1 Factory Square. She was recorded as being 18 years old. Also living in the house were their three youngest children.5 Alice Maud Mary Smith was a silk weaver on 5 April 1891.5
