Elizabeth Oaten was born on 4 May 1825 at London.1 She was the daughter of John Oaten and Ann Weems.1

Her mother died 23 December 1828. Elizabeth was aged 3 when this happened. She presumably lived with her parents at Curzon Street, Hanover Square, London, in February 1834.2 She may have lived with her parents at Curzon Street, St. George Hanover Square, London, in 1837. However, she may have already been living with the Gillett family.3

In John Oaten's will on 21 March 1837 Hannah Tamsey, Mary Oaten, Anne Oaten, Harriet Oaten and Hannah Oaten, Elizabeth Oaten, Harriet Finney, William Finney, Mary Barker, Harriet Oaten and Joseph Oaten were named as heirs. As John's niece, she was to receive £100 from the estate on her 21st birthday..4

By the terms of her grandfather's will, she should have received £100 on 4 May 1846, her 21st birthday.4

She may have attended the wedding of her brother in the marriage of Charles Oaten and Harriet Louisa Roberts a civil service at the Registry Office on Saturday, 25 February 1865 at the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy. Harriet had to get prior permission from a JP due to her age. It's not clear why they chose a civil service over a religious one. Harriet and Charles went on to have six children together, three of whom lived into their adulthood.5

Her father died 11 April 1866 at the approximate age of 64. Elizabeth was aged 40 when this happened.

Elizabeth likely died in 1890 at Bootle, Liverpool.1 Her body was likely interred on 14 April 1890 at Millom, Cumberland.6
