Helen Messinger Wallis was also known as Helen Messenger Wallis.2 Helen was born in 1843.

She married Henry William Oaten, son of John Oaten and Charlotte Amelia Pellett, in 1863.3

Helen attended the wedding of her brother in law Charles Oaten and Harriet Louisa Roberts a civil service at the Registry Office on Saturday, 25 February 1865 at the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy. They also signed the marriage certificate as witnesses. Harriet had to get prior permission from a JP due to her age. It's not clear why they chose a civil service over a religious one. Others who almost certainly attended the wedding include John Oaten as father of the groom.4 She presumably lived with her spouse Henry at at Cliff Street in the Melbourne suburb of Prahran in 1870.5 She presumably lived with her spouse Henry at at 56 Moray Place in the Melbourne suburb of Emerald Hill in 1872.6 She presumably lived with her spouse Henry at at 43 Eastern Road in the Melbourne suburb of Emerald Hill in 1873.7 She presumably lived with her spouse Henry at at 5 Great Davis Street in the Melbourne suburb of South Yarra in 1877.8 She presumably lived with her spouse Henry at at Myamyn Street in the Melbourne suburb of Malvern in 1890.9

Helen died on 3 May 1892 at the Melbourne suburb of Malvern.10,11

She died intestate.12 Her body was interred at St. Kilda cemetery at the Melbourne suburb of St. Kilda. Church of England, Compartment B, Grave 0262.
