Mary was born circa 1819. She was the daughter of Charles Berjew and Susan Hooke. Mary Berjew was baptised on Sunday, 5 December 1819 at the village of Up Cerne near the town of Cerne Abbas, Dorset.

She married Thomas Garlick, on Saturday, 26 September 1857 at the Adelaide suburb of Unley..1

Mary died in 1914.
