Argyle was born in April 1902 at the Sydney suburb of Mosman. However, he died soon after.1 He was the son of Joseph William Hill and Mary Alberta MacCallum Bourke.

Argyle died on 24 May 1902 at at 'Thalaba' Muston Street in the Sydney suburb of Mosman of syncope & asthenia premature. This cause of death means a short loss of consciousness due to a drop in blood pressure that was part of a general wasting away. From the first, Argyle must have been a weak baby, most likely due to being premature.1,2 His body was interred at St. Thomas' Church of England on 25 May 1902 at North Sydney.1
