Leila was born on Friday, 30 April 1920 at the Melbourne suburb of Moonee Ponds.1 She was the daughter of Charles Harold Barker and Jennet Elizabeth Wilkinson.

She married Donald Owen Nicholson Bourke, a recently de-mobbed soldier, son of Donald Hugh Aloysius Bourke and Ivy Pearl Owens, in a Church of England cermony at St. Thomas' on Saturday, 20 April 1946 at the Melbourne suburb of Essendon. She was 25 and her husband Donald was 32.. Others who may have attended the wedding include Jennet Elizabeth Wilkinson as mother of the bride, Charles Harold Barker as father of the bride and Ivy Pearl Owens as mother of the groom. Brothers and sisters who may have attended include Bessie Patricia Bourke. Donald and Leila went on to have two known children together.2 Leila lived on 20 April 1946 at at 17 Coates Street in the Melbourne suburb of Moonee Ponds.2 She was a clerk on 20 April 1946.2 Leila and Donald lived in 1949 at 45a Shaw Street, in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales.3

Leila and Donald lived in 1963 at at 141 South Road in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton.4 Leila and Donald lived in 1977 at 362 Albert Road, in South Melbourne.5 Leila Peard Barker was a cook in 1977.5 Leila and Donald lived in 1980 at at 37 Stanley Street in the Melbourne suburb of Black Rock.6

Leila died on 14 September 1987 at Melbourne at age 67.7 Her body was interred at Springvale cemetery on 14 September 1987 at the Melbourne suburb of Springvale.7
