    Burnie
A link with the early days was severed with the passing at her home, Bourke street, Burnie, on Saturday, in her 90th year, of Mrs. Catherine Joan Fooks Stutterd, whose earliest connection with Burnie extended back 65 years. Her death will be regretted by a wide circle of friends.
Widow of Alfred Stutterd, who for many years was in business in Burnie she was the youngest daughter of the late John and Catherine Joan Iles Berjew, formerly of Weymouth, England who came to Australia in 1841, making their first home on Adelaide, where the late Mrs. Stutterd was born. After five years' residence in Melbourne the family moved to Stanley, when Mrs Stutterd was still a child. There she married her late husband, members of a well-known family whose connection with Circular Head and Table Cape extends back to the early years of settlement. Taking up residence in Burnie, they remained there for 32 years and in 1908 proceeded to Melbourne where Mr. Stutterd died 18 months latter. Returning to Tasmania in 1912, Mrs. Stutterd made her home in Wynyard for 10 years, when she went back to Burnie, where she lived until her death.
In earlier days the Stutterd home established for itself a reputation for hospitality, which Mrs. Stutterd maintained till the end. Her friends were many, and they were always welcome. Although afflicted with blindness in the closing years of her life she maintained always a happy outlook, and keenly followed events of the day until her last illness. Her chief interest was her home, however, and for all who passed through its doors she had the same cheery greeting.
Surviving members of the family are Mrs. E. F. T. Hamilton, of Melbourne, ad Mrs. C. Ashe and Mr. A. J. Stutterd, of Burnie. There are eight grand children and ten great-grandchildren.
Buial took place in the Wivenhoe cemetery yesterday afternoon, in the presence of a large gathering. Services at St. George's Church and the grave side were conducted by the Rector (Rev. F.J. M'Cabe, who in a tribute to the late Mrs. Stutterd at the church, said her character, sweetness of nature and hospitality had drawn to her many friends, the number of whom grew'with the years.
The chief mourners were Mr. A. J. Stutterd (son) and Messrs. M. K. and W. Stutterd (grandsons). The pallbearers were Messrs. C. H. Ashe, G. Stutterd, G. Sorell, T. M. Crisp, M. Harrison and E. F. T. Hamilton, and the carriers Messrs. M. and K. Stutterd, R. M'Mahon, N. Fooks.. F. J. and J. R Cherry. There was a profusion of floral tributes.").
